Before the angel Gabriel made his stupendous announcement to a virgin maiden in the town of Nazareth, there were farewells to be said in heaven.  The angels understood that their glorious Lord, the light of their life, was going on a long journey to another planet, and would be absent from them for more than thirty four earth years.  The first nine months the Sun of Righteousness, their Lord, would be eclipsed completely in a human mother’s womb.  Only His Father would see him there and miss the fellowship of His Son.  And they knew that the end of His sojourn on that planet was shrouded in terrible happenings.  But their Lord would be coming back, mission accomplished, having bought back from the enemy a vast family with His life blood, to join Him in heaven later.  And they marveled that their Lord deemed it all worth while. 

We know He did, for Hebrews 2:10-13 tells us that He did it  with joy for His beloved brethren!

The Lord Jesus, standing on the portico of heaven, takes off His kingly purple robe.

His gaze is directed to the small globe of the earth far below Him.  The Bible says that

“the fulness of Time had come,” (Gal. 4:4) I imagine the Father says to Him, “My Son, it is time to leave me and go down to the world we love.  You will be despised and rejected by the people you go to save.  You will be a Man of sorrows, acquainted with grief. Only thru the door of death can you return to me.  Are you willing?”  And His Son replies simply,

“Lo, I go to do thy will, O God.  A body hast thou prepared for me.” With these words, the Lord of glory emptied Himself of His outward glories and privileges of deity.  He began to grow smaller and smaller and smaller…until He became that holy Seed which the Spirit of God took to earth to implant in the womb of Mary.  “And the angel said to her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee.  Therefore that holy Child that shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35)

And Mary gave Him the name Jesus because He would save His people from their sins.

And her cousin Elizabeth rejoiced greatly, saying, “Through the tender mercy of our God the Dayspring from on High has visited us, to give Light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of Peace.”  (Luke 1:78-79.)

And this is it what He told me: “Like America has defended, loved and
promoted the state of Israel and has supported the Jews – just like that
will that nation hate, condemn and curse that state and the Jews, worse
than it has been since in history.

Lo and behold this is what the Lord says: “My people and My children
must be hated by all peoples. All of them must turn their faces from them.
I will make them do that because I am a jealous God and I am zealous
about my people and want to fight for My Israel and My children and want
to be their Lord and God.

Don’t be amazed about the worldwide hatred and dislike against My Israel,
against the Jews and the Christians alike. This is condoned and allowed by

(Jerusalem) will surrender under the atheistic peoples of this world, the
Lord says. Neither will these nations have sovereignty nor will they have
any power in My land. I will neither succumb to these nation nor will they
tell Me how to part it. I have given this land to Abraham and his descendants
and they will keep it for eternity, says the Lord.

My people, don’t be fainthearted or desperate when the course of events
suddenly turns dismal and you are wedged from all sides, when you do not
see a way out or even a solution. I have never forsaken My children, never
have I left them alone in dire straits. I love them, and I have thwarted any
plots against them and have rescued them always at the very last possible
instant with My mighty arm. Once upon a time I parted the Red Sea,
led them through the desert and provided for them in miraculous ways.

I will do anything for Israel and My children. I will fulfil My covenant and
my obligations with them. I will keep My word. Don’t faint and become
desperate My people. You are positioned at a turning point in your history.

All of whom you thought will help you will end up having to endure misery
themselves and will become desperate not knowing what to do next.
At the very moment when they are about to hit you I will slam the stick out
of their hands and turn it against them.

At the very moment when you feel that everybody in the whole wide world
has charged against, abandoned and hated you, I will personally come
down from heaven taking command and shake the earth. Woe to the big
nations of the world they will have to endure catastrophes to a magnitude
never having seen or experienced before in history and the peoples that
are charging against and are hating My people I will personally reckon
with them.

I will withdraw my protecting hand from all atheists and will leave them
alone in their fate. Pandemics will ravage their countries by devastating
and devoiding their lands. The very foundations of the earth will be
shattered. However, You My children don’t be afraid. I will protect you
with my coat and will sustain you.

My Angels have launched and are backed by armies of heavenly hosts
to protect and save you. I know My own. I know your weaknesses, too,
I know your heart and your genuine demands.
My mercy and lovingkindness is with you. Out of my true love and mercy
I will help My Israel and my parish. And I will not let it happen that the
just will be buried with the unjust. Lo and behold, I will span my protecting
arm around my children and my Israel, says the Lord. The scattering of My
people will soon end. (Refer also to Revelation 12.1-17).

Please pass this message on to other children of God and encourage them
to trust in God.

Pray for Israel, the Jews and the faithful (Christians) that you know.
The people of God will be going in to the “underground” and will be rescued
by God miraculously. And then one will ask, where do all these come from?
And then one will say: “These are the ones who came out of the great
tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the
lamb. Therefore they are before the throne of God and their names will be
written on their foreheads.” (Revelation 7.14-15). There will be no more
night for them and they will neither need a lamp nor the sun. Lo and behold,
the Lord God will be shining upon them, and they will reign forever and ever
(Revelation 22.4,5).

Years ago, I was senior pastor of a church in Pensacola, Florida. The Pro-life movement was heating up and I wanted to rally our people to help save the unborn. Christians from many churches and para-church ministries were protesting at our local abortion clinics. At one point there may have been 5000 people in the streets representing a wide spectrum of the body of Christ in our area. Hopefully, some that were contemplating abortion turned aside to other, better choices. As time went on, a small minority of radical pro-lifers began to shout horrible and hateful things not only to the abortionists, but also to those entering the clinic seeking an abortion. Due to these people, who were a very small minority, the atmosphere got very rough and poisonous. As a pastoral leader, I could no longer encourage my people to be a part of this effort which started so nobly. I pulled our people off the protest lines and away from the clinics. I was criticized for doing this, but not too long afterward a gunman murdered an abortion Doctor. Another abortionist would be gunned down in the not-too-distant future. These crimes greatly shocked our community, negatively affected the pro-life movement in the nation, and almost killed the Prolife effort in our area. I came to the conclusion during this era that has stuck with me and I believe will serve Christians well in the future: the work of Christ must be done in the spirit (attitude) of Christ. Scripture says “the wrath of a man does not work the will of God.” I understand that there is such a thing as righteous indignation and bold confrontation of wickedness and evil, but great care has to be exercised by Christians in general and pastoral leaders in particular to discern what spirit is activating an individual, group, or movement. The work of Christ must be done in the spirit of Christ! I was grieved at the recent Washington Tea Party to see some of the signs that were so slanderous, hateful, and flat-out ugly regarding our president. I do not support most of his policies, and I pray fervently for his true conversion, but I can say as a veteran minister of our Lord that some of the signs were not of Christ! If an unbeliever were carrying that sign it would be one thing, no believer should manifest hatred and contempt toward another human being.

Jesus once said, “Beware of the leaven of Herod.” Herod, of course, was the political leader of Galilee where Jesus did most of his Ministry. There was a group called the Herodians who felt like the best course of action for the Jewish people in the area was to accommodate and even compromise with Herod and his policies. Jesus warned that this type of political association (without the proper spiritual foundation) would be sinful and destructive. Every Christian needs to realize that there are definite limits to political involvement and to what politics can accomplish. Without an adequate spiritual foundation, it can be vanity and a chasing after the wind. John Adams, the second president of our country, said that our Constitution was totally inadequate for the government of irreligious people. I believe in our Constitution! But it cannot do the job alone with a population that is living in defiance to the God of the Bible. What is needed, and what we must have if we are to safeguard our freedoms and our heritage, is a genuine spiritual revolution. I am not talking about taking up arms or an Islamic style take-over the government like happened in Iran. I am talking is something beyond renewal, beyond revival as we’ve known it; a spiritual revolution that affects the masses and eventually changes institutions through true conversion to Jesus Christ and commitment to His way of life, individually and corporately.

Socially and culturally, England was a mess at the turn of the 19th century. Urbanization, cheap gin, many social problems, an ineffective Christianity, and other things had brought England into a terrible state. Across the channel, the French Revolution had turned into a massive bloodbath and ideological craziness. Would England go the same way? It might have, but God sent a spiritual revolution through the work of the Spirit in the Ministry of the Wesleys and George Whitfield. Thousands of other unknown Christians would pray and work to bring about a revolution of the most Glorious kind. No bloodshed. Wonderful social changes. Millions eventually would be truly converted to Christ and change the fabric of English society and culture. What an example for us to ardently pray for and to work for as God begins to move. We’re living in a very dynamic time of American history, with many strong crosscurrents, and many compelling voices beckoning us to move our country into a better place. Which path will you, will we take? Without a spiritual revolution, it will not work.

I will try to briefly cover the following: Your convictions about firearms, especially using them; Gun laws and other legal issues ( check with your Sheriff or lawyer); Cost, safety and training; Specific choices for home defense; and more… What are your personal convictions about firearms? Do you want them in your home? Would you actually shoot somebody who was threatening you or your family? If you have children, how does their presence effect your situation? Under what specific circumstance would you reach for your firearm. Would you attempt a “show of force” before actually shooting? Do you have the real faith to “trust the Lord Jesus” through a very dangerous situation…with or without a weapon? Questions like these are actually vital. Hesitate too long and guns and ammunition may not be available to you. In an actual threat situation, you must at least start with a very clear understanding of what you will do. I cannot answer these questions for you,but you must find the answers, and soon. Prayer and family discussions with personal reflection will bring you to a good starting point.

Guns are expensive and you must get some kind of training to learn how to use them safely. Self-defense shotguns cost from $300 to $450; A good pistol costs from $300 to $1000 depending on the make and caliber. (You do not want a junk pistol or some weird caliber!) And then there is ammunition…you need to have enough to practice shooting and then have a reserve supply. Enough ammo is critical and presently is in very short supply. Changes in Gun law may make it almost impossible to obtain. Training is important, or at least helps you learn more quickly and safely. Local law enforcement, shooting ranges, NRA courses, or private tutors may be an option for you. If you get or have a gun, you must know how it works and you must know it so well that you don’t fail in a critical situation.

Safety is no small matter and must not only be thought through, but then “the safety plan” must be carried out consistently and with discipline. Words can never express the sorrow of a gun owner who accidentally shoots a family member/ neighbor or whose child finds a guns and shoots them self or a sibling. Only the adults in the situation can work toward eliminating this possibility. All new guns have a safety brochure in the box…they offer good advice, but are geared toward recreational shooting or hunting type users. Intense self-defense environments require that guns be loaded and available and this drastically increases the dangers of accidents. In very dangerous environments I would have the whole family “camp out” in a designated room…all can be quickly accounted for and anyone moving around or in the house is a potential intruder. If you have a family and things get really rough, have family drills and drill till everyone gets the plan right.
Guns Laws are a must know and may change very rapidly. These laws are mostly state and local matters… although the ownership of some types of weapons may violate federal law. Your Police Department or Sheriff’s Office is a good starting point for this critical info. Laws vary from state to state and sometimes by locality. In my state, if you kill an intruder INSIDE your house it is not a crime, but shoot someone in the yard and you may do jail time. If you ever have to shoot at someone, call 911 as soon as possible and report the matter to the Law. In most states you have to have a concealed weapons license/permit to carry a gun on your person off your property or in your car. These are issued by local law enforcement agencies and may require passing a class and/or exam. They may be honored by other states, particularly in the South, but have certain restrictions apply, such as not bring a gun into a public building or place where liquor is served. These permits usually last a year. I recommend you and your wife each have one if you go the gun route.

What kind of gun should I get? (Again, what are your real convictions?) I am only dealing with home/ personal defense, not the best combo for hunting/marksmanship, etc. My advice is subjective, consult others also. Here are some factors to consider: Dependability, “knock-down/ stopping power,” Practical usability; availability of ammunition. Revolvers tend to be more reliable than semi-automatics…they may jam less and are very clear-cut on loading.(Clear-cut and slow!) A 20 or 12 gauge self-defense shotgun with buckshot has the maximum stopping power (But poses the greatest safety threat to a family that is spread out in the house); Shotguns and big caliber pistols (.44, .45, .357 mag) are very noisy (the concussion can actually hurt!) and can seriously jump in your hands when shot and may not be practical for a lady or older youth. Some calibers are very, very difficult to obtain ammo for… recommendations in next article!

None of us desires to see the time when we might have to put these preparations into action, but when we think of how Joseph in the Bible reacted to the coming famine with such wisdom, it behooves us to follow suit. It must be pointed out, that there may be a situation arise that would make it impossible to do ANY of these things listed below. At which time we will of necessity throw ourselves upon the mercy of our loving Heavenly Father, Who will provide miracles of supernatural provision and protection! With this in mind, we have prepared the following notes which we pray will be most helpful to you. May the Lord Adonai be very near and dear to us during these perilous times, and may we truly be ready to meet the Messiah when He returns!!

What most survivalists don’t know, is  that DE has numerous other survival applications, from a water filtration  to use as an insecticide to an anti-parasitic.  If you really want to  be prepared for the coming financial disaster, do yourself a favor and  check out some of the relatively little-known survival applications for  diatomaceous earth.  What diatomaceous earth really is:  DE is  made from fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled  algae.  There are numerous commercial and industrial uses, but you  will also find food grade diatomaceous earth that is safe – and even  beneficial – for human digestion. Food  storage:   Simply sprinkle a bit of earth on each two or three  inch layer of grain as you fill your bucket/container. Once the container  is full, roll it around on the floor (or shake it if you have a strong  back) to spread the earth around. It is excellent for killing tiny  hatchlings in your grain and is safe, tasteless, and even beneficial when  ingested by humans (as long as you aren’t guzzling it). Don’t bother  washing it off before preparing the grain it was used on. In the worst  case scenario, it will kill off some of the parasites in your body.  Water  filtration:  Some of you have studied up on expedient filtration systems,  and if you have, you will find diatomaceous earth an excellent medium for  water filtration. In fact, you will find it used in most swimming pool  filters, as it is excellent for straining microscopic particles out of  your water. (You’ll have to do your own research into how to make your own  filter). It can also be used to filter wine or beer. Just remember that  food grade diatomaceous earth can be used to filter water, but the stuff  packaged for using in your pool should NOT be used for storing grains.  Natural  insecticide:  Diatomaceous earth kills most insects by absorbing the  lipids (fats) from the outside of their exoskeletons, causing them to  quickly dehydrate. Just sprinkle a bit around your foundation to keep out  the creepy crawlies, or apply it in problem areas (garden, under the sink,  your kid’s head, etc.). Its especially useful in dealing with cockroaches,  slugs, snails aphids, thrips, earwigs, silverfish, ants, bedbugs, cabbage  root flies, carrot root flies, fleas, pillbugs, and ticks. Don’t worry,  because “d” earth doesn’t do the same damage to humans, who have much,  much more liquid in their bodies to cope with the absorption.  Anti-parasitic:   Earth can be mixed  with food in small amounts to kill worms or even parasites in humans or  animals; and can also be added to the coat of dogs or cats (or the head of  your child) to kill fleas, ticks, or lice. In fact, some vendors even  package it specifically for this purpose, and it has been used throughout  modern history by veterinarians in medical grade form to accomplish the  same purpose. Some ranchers even add it to livestock feed to help produce  healthier, parasite-free livestock. Abrasive:   Diatomaceous earth  is mildly abrasive, and can be added to homemade toothpastes or soaps to  aid in cleansing teeth, dishes, or other surfaces. Liquid  absorber:   It is also unduly useful as an alternative to cat  litter or to clean up spills – and is even recommended by the Center for  Disease Control to clean up toxic liquids. There are however a couple of  considerations you should keep in mind when working with diatomaceous  earth. Because it absorbs liquids, it can be mildly irritating if you end  up breathing in a lot of its dust. Use a mask if you plan on being messy.  Also, diatomaceous earth will often kill “good” insects like bees and  ladybugs, so use it conscientiously. Living On the Lord’s Land By Rayana McCrae (March 2009)

All through the Bible, the Creator of Heaven and Earth has provided for His people. At the time of the Creation of man, the Creator had a garden with water, living trees, and living herbs, which were to be used for food. Later, He even provided meat to eat. Abraham’s wife, Hagar, and mother of Ishmael, was dying in the desert, yet the Lord provided water. Elijah was fed by the ravens. David and his men ate the show bread. During the 40 years in the wilderness, the children of Israel drank water from the rocks, ate manna and quail, and even their clothes and shoes did not wear out in forty years! Jonah survived in the belly of a whale! We are all born for such a time as this. I believe we are here on earth at the right time, and whatever disasters are coming, (and they are coming) the Lord will provide for His people. I think of the countries where the water is so polluted we would not survive for a day, yet the locals live on garbage dumps, toxic waste, and highly polluted water. By the grace of God, and according to His will, they survive, and even bear children who live the same life style. It is amazing! It is man’s greed that has destroyed so much of our Lord’s air, water, food, and soil, as He provided enough for everyone. I also believe it is the same greed that has caused so many illnesses, poverty, and will bring disasters or plagues. It is also a miracle to think of a tiny egg, that has everything to grow into a baby an adult, or an acorn or a mustard seed that has all it needs to grow into a huge tree. I give thanks and marvel at the Lord’s blessings and His Creations. He is the Living Bread and the Living Water. As I look out my window, and walk around my small organic farm, I am deeply grateful to the Creator. I marvel as the birds of the air, squirrels, rabbits, deer, mice, rats, frogs, worms, and insects, all are provided for. Lord forgive me when I even complain as some of them feast on the luscious fruit and vegetables I have worked so hard to grow. It is YOUR LAND, LORD and it is YOUR FOOD and you say in Your Word you will feed your creations. The birds and squirrels always know when the nuts are perfect to eat and store. Of course, the bird pick the biggest and best cherries, berries, grapes, and the wasps are pros at the best apples on the trees. I learned to be grateful for what is left for my family and me. As challenging as it is to grow organically and harvest here in BC, it is also so rewarding. I believe, that in the future, the true gold will be the Lord’s “SEEDS” that are not hybrids, but His living foods and herbs! What is missing in the average diet is the lack of enzymes, minerals, and the use of greens. And yet as you look around, the Lord makes this area so green with His Living Food. In the spring comes the abundance of LIVING HERBS, filled with nutrients and natural chlorophyll – all from the Lord. The very hardy weed, the dandelion, can be harvested. The early spring leaves can be eaten in salads, or made into green drinks. The beautiful yellow blossoms the children and I have gathered and made into delicious syrup. Some people even make wine from the dandelions. The root is dried and used for cleansing the blood and the liver. There is chickweed, lambs quarter, sorrel, plantain, stinging nettles – all so nourishing – and can be used for teas, salads, or soups. The high mineral count in the red and white clover is good for cleansing the blood and for healing. White clover helps the nerves. Feverfew grows like weeds, and is used for headaches. Chamomile is good for a nervous stomach. The wild mullein is good for swelling and skin conditions, the precious pods filled with oil that can be used also for the skin, and as an oil for the ears. Calendula is a popular garden flower, and is made into an amazing healing cream. The burdock root cleanses and heals the liver. The huge hawthorn trees, with beautiful red berries, are so good for the heart and the circulation. (Unfortunately, my tree is too close to the road, so I have transplanted some to the back of the property.) Juniper berries can be used with caution as a diuretic, or for the urinary antiseptic. Anyone can grow the common herbs in pots in a window box, or a porch – eg. parsley, oregano, basil, chives, rosemary, lavender, thyme, sage, marjoram, catnip, lemon balm, and peppermint.Try some nasturtium flowers in a salad, or use the seeds for a peppery taste. In my yard I also have sage, lemon balm, lavender, loveage, wormwood, comfrey, garlic, oregano, peppermint, and winter rosemary, These herbs can all be used fresh or dried – for cooking, teas, and medicine. The Lord also provides the WILD BERRIES. salmon berries, blueberries, huckleberries, Saskatoon berries, black berries, strawberries, raspberries, (I am not certain if the medicinal elderberries grow here.) There is also Oregon Grape, and rose hips loaded with Vitamin C. There are so many herbs, barks, flowers, that can be used as food and for medicine. The Lord God knows them all – He created them for our use and benefit. Our God is an awesome God and greatly to be praised. We are so grateful for Our Lord’s love, His mercy, His grace, and His abundance. There is a time and a season for all things. “Listen“ to His will. He gave us His comforter, the Holy Spirit, to guide and protect.

The body needs greens and enzymes to stay healthy. Sprouts take very little water, but are very high in nutrients. The water to rinse the sprouts can be used for drinking or cooking. I grow sprouts in a jar with a lid with holes for easy rinsing. Organic is best. Grains to Sprout – whole alfalfa, wheat, kamut, spelt, rye, flax. – Vegetables to sprout – broccoli, clover, onions, radish – Organic whole grains – wheat, spelt, kamut quinoa, steel cut oats brown rice, flax. I store some in jars with tight fitting lids. Herbs and Spices – organic granulated onions, garlic, cumin, cayenne, dried parsley, oregano, basil, dill, rosemary, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, seaweeds— herbs you use in your own kitchen, just keep the jars full. Herb teas — I always keep a few boxes of medicinal teas (cough and cold, elderberry, digestive, sleeping, kidney and liver teas as well as drinking teas rooibus, pau d’arco, peppermint, ginger, green tea) Canned Organic Beans – garbanzo, pinto, kidney beans, black beans, lima beans, as already in water, and do not need cooking. Also some dried beans for soups.Canned organic soups – as these have some water. Have extra cans that you are using & date and rotate (choose vegetable, chicken noodles, rice, barley) Organic canned vegetables with water – diced tomatoes, green beans, carrots, spinach. Canned organic fruits – in their own juices, as fluids with natural sugars. Canned fish - tuna, salmon, sardines, herring, mackerel. Extra Virgin Olive oil – as it keeps for a very long time. Lots of Omega 3. Organic whole grain crackers, rye crisps, rice cakes. Dried Organic fruit – apples, apricots, prunes, raisins, figs. MAKING A FIRE

Find some type of glass or shiny rocks.

1) Put in the sun, & while holding it, make a pile of grass and dry birch wood.

2) Concentrate the light on the pile of leaves and wood until a flame arises.

3) With two rocks of the same kind, smack them together.

4) If sparks don’t erupt, try different types of rocks until you get sparks.

5) When you do, aim the sparks down on the pile of leaves and wood – eventually you will get fire.

6)These are the easy ways to get fire. If you can carry matches, use them wisely.

EARTHQUAKES

Before an earthquake:

1. Have an earthquake survival kit on hand.

2. Plan family emergency procedures, and make plans for reuniting your family.

3. Know emergency telephone numbers (doctor, hospital, police, 911, etc.)

4) Anchor heavy objects to walls (bookcases, wall units, mirrors, cabinets, etc.)

5) Teach family members how to turn off water & electricity

6) Clearly label the on-off positions for the water, electricity, and gas.

7) If natural gas: tie/tape appropriate wrench on/near pipe, to turn off gas, if necessary.

Repair loose roof shingles.

9) Tie water heater to studs along with other heavy appliances (stove, washer, dryer), esp. those that could break gas or water lines if they shift or topple.

10) Keep heavy items on lower shelves.

11) Never place heavy objects over beds, and keep heavy objects lower than head height of shortest member of family.

12) Affix mirrors, paintings and other hanging objects securely.

13) Locate beds and chairs away from chimneys and windows.

14) Closed curtains and blinds will help stop broken window glass from falling on beds.

15) Put anti-skid pads under TVs, computers/ other small appliances, or secure with Velcro or replacement. (keep scrolling down…)

16) Use child-proof or safety latches on cupboards to stop from spilling out.

17) Keep flammable items and household chemicals away from heat and where they are less likely to spill.

18) Consult a professional to find out additional ways you can protect your home, such as bolting the house to its foundation and other structural mitigation techniques.

19) If you live in an apartment block or a multi-story building, work with your building manager or condominium board to decide how best to “quake-safe” your unit.

20) Seek advice from professionals (building engineers, emergency preparedness authorities) if you are unsure about what to do.

21) If you live in a mobile home, you can leave the wheels on the mobile home to limit its fall. Or, you can install a structural bracing system to reduce the chance of your unit falling off its supports.

22) Ensure the awning on your home is securely supported and fastened to the unit.

23) For information on the best way to brace your unit, contact your local mobile home dealer or a mobile home owner’s association.

Safety Tips for Earthquakes:

• Don’t shut off the gas unless there is a leak or a fire. If the gas  is turned off, it must be turned on again by a qualified tradespersons.  
• Discuss earthquake  insurance with your insurance broker. Check your coverage – it could affect  your financial ability to recover losses after an earthquake.
  

During An Earthquake:

Small or Moderate Earthquakes:

1) last only a few seconds with no emergency risk.

2) ceiling lights move

3) objects rattle.

4) slight quiver under feet if outside.

5) May be a loud bang, then shaking.

Large Earthquakes:

1) last several minutes

2) lead to disaster if near dense population, or magnitude large enough for region.

difficulty walking.

NOW WHAT??

1. Stay calm – take cover pronto!

2. If inside, stand in doorway, or crouch under a desk or table, well away from windows or glass dividers.

4. Hold onto object you are under so you remain covered

5. If you cannot locate something strong, or if in hallway, flatten yourself or crouch against interior wall

6. If in shopping mall, go to nearest store

7. Stay away from windows & shelves with heavy objects

8. If in school, get under desk or table and hold on – face away from windows

9. If in wheelchair, lock wheels & protect back of head & neck

10. If outside, STAY outside.

11. Stand away from buildings, trees, telephones and electrical lines. Go into open area.

12. If in crowded area, take cover where it is safe.

13. If you are in a vehicle

14. Pull over to safe place – keep roads clear for rescue units

15. Avoid bridges, underpasses, overpasses, buildings, or anything that can collapse

on car & stay inside car

16. Listen to car radio for instructions

17. Don’t attempt to get out of car if downed power lines are across road. Wait to be rescued.

18. Place a help sign in your window if you need it

19. If on a bus, stay in seat

20. Take cover in protected place

21. If no cover, crouch & protect head from falling debris

22. Doorways & doors may slam shut & cause injuries as well as windows & other things

23. If you are in an elevator, hit button for every floor & get out as soon as possible

24. If encountering downed power lines, stay at least 10m away to avoid injury

25. In coastline, earthquakes can trigger large tidal waves.

26. If on road, drive from underpasses & overpasses; stop in safe area; stay in car.

After An Earthquake:

3. Prepare for aftershocks.
7. Listen to radio or TV for instructions.
11. Place phone receivers back in cradles & only make emergency  calls.
15. Put on sturdy shoes & protective clothing.
19. Check home for structural damage & other  hazards.
23. If home unsafe, do not re-enter.
27. If you have to evacuate home, take emergency kit & other  essentials.
31. Post message in clear view where you are. (keep scrolling  down…)
35. Do not waste food, water, supplies.
39. Do not light matches or turn on light switches till sure no gas  leaks or flammable liquids spilled.
43. Use flashlight to check utilities & do not shut off unless  damaged. Leaking gas will smell.
47. If tap water is still available immediately after the earthquake,  fill a bathtub and other containers in case the supply gets cut off. If there  is no running water, remember that you may have water available in a hot water  tank (make sure water is not hot before touching it) and toilet reservoir (not  the bowl).
51. Do not flush toilets if you suspect sewer lines are broken.  
55. Carefully clean up any spilled hazardous materials.  
59. Wear proper hand and eye protection.
63. Check on your neighbours after looking after members of your own  household.
67. Organize rescue measures if people are trapped or call for emergency  assistance if you cannot safely help them.
71. If you have pets, try to find and comfort them. If you have to  evacuate, take them to a pre-identified pet-friendly shelter.  
75. Place a HELP sign in your window if you need assistance.  
79. Beware of secondary effects. Although ground shaking is the major  source of earthquake damage, secondary effects can also be very destructive.  These include landslides, saturated sandy soils becoming soft  and unstable, flooding of low-lying areas and tsunamis washing over coastlines.
83. Check for injuries – provide first aid.
87. Check for safety – check for gas, water, sewage  breaks;
91. Check for downed power lines and shorts;
95. Turn off appropriate utilities.
99. Check for building damage and potential problems during aftershocks.  
103. Clean up dangerous spills.
107. Wear supportive shoes.
111. Turn on radio and listen for instructions from public safety  agencies.
