A Marine Lt. in Ramadi, Iraq

marine_desert.JPGYesterday I had lunch with Lt. Jeff Rhoman, USMC, a communications officer attached to a USMC infantry batallion. You would be proud of this man …deeply, thoughtfully commited to our country and his Corps, intelligent, athletic, handsome and a seriously commited Christian. While we chatted together over Mexican food with our wives, he spoke of his first experiences in Ramadi. During an orientation visit to a local police station, he and his colleagues were attacked by insurgents. Heavy mortar fire and a small arms firefight that lasted almost 45 minutes. Training and God’s grace enabled him to stay cool and pass through the experience…What about you? Are you in any way prepared for sudden deafening explosions and gunfire? Can’t happen here? Terrorists would love to bring it to you. Lt. Rohman commented that as soon as the attack started he put in his earplugs/ sound attenuators…possibly saving hours of deafness or worse! The times call for a very close walk with the Lord Jesus…and practical skills put into action.
