A Lesson from the 2007 New Year Blizzards

John Havener January 4th, 2007

Like blasts from a double barreled shotgun, two back to back blizzards at the beginning of 2007 in Colorado and Kansas stranded motorists and livestock killing a number of folks and thousands of cattle. Among the problems in the aftermath of the storms was dwindling water supplies. Emergency management officials voiced concern for a real water cricis for some… womanwaterbottle_1.jpgWater is the absolutely most fundamental need and the top priority for physical preparation.

A dear friend of mine had NO water laid up prior to hurricane Ivan which struck the Gulf Coast in 2004…not one gallon. His reasoning: ‘I have a generator (a good thing!) and it is hooked up to my pump. I just crank the generator, flip a switch, and presto…water!’ Problem: The storm mangled his power lines, making the whole set up unworkable and leaving him with NO WATER!

How about you? Do you have a supply of water in your home and car that is independent of the water system? Most of us could go weeks without eating, but “no water” is another story. More to come in the days ahead.
